DISCOVERY; One of the albums I listened to with Mitch the same night we listened to Rocks. "Just play the very best stuff, we don't have time to listen to any rubbish." He was never sure if I was joking or not. He played a little bit of Their Satanic Majesties Request which was pretty weird and then we listened to Aqualung in its entirety. Stellar. I also heard this album at a field party somewhere in Isanti County under the stars. That was bound to make an impression. The local lads would acquire a keg of beer, an ounce of weed (or a pound) and spread the word. Usually in a hay field freshly cut so the cars wouldn't damage crops. Jethro Tull was becoming a popular band amongst this set of nature enthusiasts.
So it was that Robert added Aqualung to his Jethro Tull collection and by far the most time I spent listening to it was at Robert's house without the benefit of a keg of beer, etc.
WHERE & WHEN; I didn't own a copy of Aqualung, not until the era of re-mixed / re-mastered / bonus tracks / etc. The ubiquitous Jethro Tull album. I didn't need a copy of it, it was bound to show up and seemed to do just that, frequently... hard to avoid. I always considered this album a sort of masterpiece with transcendent qualities but even magical albums lose their sparkle when over-played. I've had an MP3 copy for a few years now but never listen to it. Certain albums require ideal circumstances and unbroken concentration. I'd listen to it with you if you could sit still for 45 minutes. Try to imagine those heady days when hippies roamed the land and St. Francis was a farming community.
HIGHLIGHTS; Every glorious note!
STATUS; Temporary MP3 copy, Must Have
