DISCOVERY; Summertime in Minnesota, 1971, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey on the radio in all of its three dimensional epic glory. I was perhaps a bit Beatle mad. Together or separately they were the only people making music. The rest of it (the entire history of recorded music) was just filling in the space until I could hear another Beatles song. None of the rest of it was interesting. Most of it was just annoying. I could become quite agitated, especially if a song I deemed unworthy followed a Beatles song on the Radio. To this day I have very little patience for music I haven't chosen, like music in a public space. I will almost universally find it annoying. Music doesn't make me want to spend money. It makes me want to get away from it quickly. Started back when I was quite small it would seem. Having preferences about what music I want floating in my head. Everyone does. In 1971 I was only going to allow these few individuals entrée to the floaty bits between my ears. This album by Paul and Linda was my new favourite record.
WHERE & WHEN; I lived on a farm. What? What kind of thing is that? Have I failed to mention this so far? Maybe I thought I had something in common with Paul McCartney living on a farm. I could relate... we didn't have sheep though. We had tractors. We had fields, corn, alfalfa, soy beans and rye. We had wagons and a plow. We borrowed the disk from Lintons, they borrowed the plow from us. We had a field cultivator, seed drill, drag. A combine pulled behind a tractor to harvest the grain. And there were woods. Acres and acres of wooded land full of raspberries. Nasties too. Skunks, poison ivy, wood ticks... just had to be alert. I loved living on a farm and I loved this new album.
