DISCOVERY; It was simply deciding which King Crimson album to buy next. The album with the coolest cover and the freakiest name... easy!

WHERE & WHEN; Completely gobsmacked by this one, right off the deep end into some seriously trippy music, I totally loved it. Well, I almost totally loved it... you had to be prepared to sit and listen, let the album unfold, go for the ride. At 16, I increasingly had the attention span of a gnat. I was looking for the 3:30 rockers for my mix tapes and this album doesn't really do that. Book of Saturday isn't a fair representation of King Crimson if you encounter one of my mix tapes from back in the day. Nice song though it is.

FURTHER NOTE; I've heard all sorts about the formulas involved in the creation of this masterpiece. In one ear and out the other with me you know cuz there's not much to slow it down. Were they really that desperate or bored or what? I would have thought formulas and that level of planning were reserved for the lofty minds of classical composers. So now I'm thinking Larks' Tongues in Aspic was the first classical album in my collection and I was indeed becoming a sophisticated record connoisseur. Look at me!

HIGHLIGHTS; Every note!

STATUS; Must Have
