Beginnings

DISCOVERY; First encounter with Jimi Hendrix, a dreadfully worn copy of Are You Experienced in Mr Smith's Box. I thought "this is just noise". Then one afternoon I watched a film documentary about the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, flower power, peace and love and there's Jimi Hendrix again with all the noise only it made a bit more sense this time around. Doing my homework I quickly learned that no record collection could be complete or indeed credible unless it included every scrap of available Jimi Hendrix virtuoso/genius guitar available. So I bought the latest record, set the controls for a new experience and was pleasantly surprised. I loved it!

WHERE & WHEN; I'm no kind of purist. I had no idea there was any controversy about overdubbed parts. I could not have cared less at the time. 15 years old, first Hendrix record, I thought it was great and I played it constantly. Here's the thing... I don't have any problem with sacred cows getting a face lift, a re-mix, mashed up or overdubbed. I mean, if some Latvian rugby players record nursery rhymes over some Jimi Hendrix guitar parts and the critics all hate it but 30 people in Bolton want more, who's to say that's wrong? People are just so uptight.

HIGHLIGHTS; Trash Man - Midnight Lightning - Hear My Train - Blue Suede Shoes - Machine Gun

STATUS; Would snap it up if they re-issued it. Must Have (for my collection at any rate).
