DISCOVERY; I still remember this Christmas, best Christmas ever! TWO Beatles albums! My oldest sister Eileen, just returned from Washington State got this one for me. There was only one problem with it which had nothing to do with the music. It had to do with the design of the roof, Minnesota winters and perhaps a lack of guttering. It was warm a few days before Christmas when she brought in a paper bag full of gifts. The icicles were melting, dripping water as she negotiated the storm-door trying not to slip on the ice. The only thing that got wet and she didn't know it at the time was my album. The cover was warped and crackled and had a distinctive musty smell by the time I opened it on Christmas day. What I discovered is this; even all these years later, wherever I encounter an original gatefold Let It Be album, (with the red Apple label) I can smell that same musty smell. It all comes back to me.

WHERE & WHEN; 1971, the album was still being promoted heavily as the song Let It Be had just won an Academy Award yet somehow I was still convinced that no one liked The Beatles and I knew something no one else knew. I was hip to some amazing music no one else had a clue about. What was absolutely true is that in my little bubble I was the only Beatles fanatic. Safe for a while yet.
