DISCOVERY; Bowie produced so of course I was going to check it out. I hadn't heard of The Velvet Underground, no clue about any of that. I also had the vague idea from the rock press that Lou Reed was some sort of 'rock n roll animal' and what with the guitar on the album jacket I was expecting a guitar driven tour de force. I had also heard Walk On The Wild Side but didn't realise it was Lou Reed or even that it was on this album. (I obviously did a lot of research even back then) I thought Walk On The Wild Side was by one of those talky piano playing performers that do variety shows.

WHERE & WHEN; So I didn't get any amazing guitar solos or riff heavy rockers but I did get a very amusing album with a couple profoundly beautiful songs on it. Another album that holds up extremely well all these years later. Bowie's "twee" production sets this apart from all other Lou Reed albums and it's pretty much the only one of his solo albums I like. Lou Reed had a long and varied career, always interesting, nothing shabby, I just never locked in.

HIGHLIGHTS; Every note!

STATUS; Temporary MP3 copy, Must Have
