DISCOVERY; OK, let me tell you the story about Mitch and how this unlikely album retains a place in the collection. There was an immediate connection which seems like quantum entanglement in hindsight or some such property of an unseen world. A previous lifetime in the same spacetime or perhaps many repeating lifetimes, always meeting the same people in the same town in the same year. Do we in fact simply loop back endlessly? Maybe that's why it's all so familiar? Writing down my dreams in a journal at the time, I wrote about the dream I had involving the new kid, Mitch. Some twenty years later, given the instruction about how to locate his grave I was reminded of the dream, looked up the journal entry and by some odd coincidence I had written out the instructions word for word. So what does that have to do with Rocks? Mitch was the first person I got stoned with and Rocks was the first album we listened to. OK, we only listened to the first two songs and then decided to listen to something good like The Rolling Stones and right on cue his sister Tracy walked into the room wearing nothing but a towel! She didn't know Mitch had a friend over. She was as startled as I was. Stunning they were, brother and sister, practically twins, long red hair, aquiline faces. Some years later I finally managed the courage to ask Tracy out. We went out just the one time. Not a blessed thing in common.

Robert bought this album some time later. I don't recall ever listening to side two or all of side one for that matter. I briefly had Toys In The Attic which Tony and I played back to back with Sticky Fingers. No comparison really. "Poor man's Rolling Stones" is what Tony said of Aerosmith. We could be remarkably judgemental.

WHERE & WHEN; I again bought both Rocks and Toys In The Attic in the late 90s. That's when I finally heard all of side two. Toys In The Attic lasted about a week longer than it did the first time around but Rocks holds a tenuous place in the collection for sentimental reasons. It reminds me of Mitch.
