DISCOVERY; Returning to Oarfolkjokeopus, the coolest record shop in Minneapolis, where we can just assume unless otherwise noted, I'll be buying my albums for the next seven years, I came away with a splendid David Bowie album. I remember showing the cover to Ma when I got home. I so loved to ruffle her feathers. I had to be careful not to over do. Ruffle her up, smooth it all back down. Say something outrageous, make it all OK again. It was a sport. I went too far sometimes and not far enough at other times. She was lovely. About the Aladdin Sane album cover she only wondered why I didn't listen to normal music that other people like. "David Bowie isn't normal" but then it all depends on how you define normal, why everyone should think the same and how unnatural is this sameness people try to achieve. Embrace uniqueness, celebrate the individual and for God's sake recognise genius! "David Bowie is a genius!" I would have said.
WHERE & WHEN; So there are a couple songs on Aladdin Sane I don't particularly like, the Stones cover and the opening track but they fit with the mood of the album. I'd have thought there were other songs in the pipeline that would have been better but it doesn't matter. The album is pure genius and I sat there in my room in a fit state of ecstasy soaking it all in.
