DISCOVERY; We're listening to one more record at Robert's house before we move on. Current in 1974, the song "Bungle in the Jungle" a big hit on the radio, it's Jethro Tull's War Child. An album I've always dismissed as a commercial affair. I suppose it is a bit. Other albums by Tull around this time are more satisfying but War Child survives in my collection on more than just sentimental value. Skating Away is one of their outstanding songs from any album plus several other tracks notable for intense guitar work (Back-Door Angels) dark humour (Sealion) or the scathing wit of Only Solitaire. The album is chock full of complexities if maybe a little short on subtleties, it's very in your face, the drums are manic and the voice with that slap echo... well, that first impression stuck for a long time. I added it to the list of albums Robert had that I didn't need to bother with but I could listen to it once in a while at his house.

WHERE & WHEN; I did eventually get a copy only to not listen to it again. Haven't heard the re-mix. I suspect it improves the separation and highlights the intricacies of the arrangements and maybe, just maybe the re-mixed version re-creates the ambience of the living room at Robert's house. That would be cool.
