DISCOVERY; Shopper's City in Coon Rapids was still the closest place to buy records, they had the latest Frank Zappa. I was there with Ma buying clothes for school. I wasn't concerned about such things (really) but I wants to look me best of course so I picked out the new Zappa and showed it to Ma. "This is a good look." I said. I think I was the source of her nervous twitch but I can't say for sure and at that point I felt obligated to buy the album and play it while she was doing laundry in the basement. Fun times.

The first Zappa album properly in my collection, I treated this album like homework. A musical study and life lessons in one neat package. How to etc. etc. by Frank Zappa. A blueprint if you will about every possible bad ending you could come to if you're not careful! From fashion sense to the advice on dating to making career choices and avoiding dungeons, this album had it all. And plenty of guitar! A veritable guitar players how to, from blues and jazz to fuzzy pop. Is Disco Boy fuzzy pop? That's what I'd call it.

WHERE & WHEN; Ultimately, I mean like these days, The Torture Never Stops does go on a bit. When I was 16 I thought it was funny and crazy but now... at nine minutes fourty-five seconds, it's about nine minutes too long. Skip Ms Pinky as well... there are some really great tracks on the album though! The instrumental tracks as usual are utterly brilliant but I wouldn't just sit down and listen to this album start to finish.
