DISCOVERY; My sister Julie remembers helping Ma pick this album for a Christmas present (for me obviously) I mean, I would have got this album just for the cover! It's a cool cover so I was a bit "thank you very much" and all smiles. The only song I was familiar with, Revolution, had become my favourite juke box 45 at the local eatery.
Almost every Saturday night we'd go out to eat. The closest place, called Ott's, was just north of Linton's on the lake. Lake George. Later they called this local pub By George but for the time being it was Ott's and they served chicken in a basket. And it was good and the beer was cheap though I was too young to appreciate that aspect. Dad would give Julie and I pocket change to play pinball and put some music on the juke box. The locals all played King of the Road until our ears... well you can imagine and there's me with my musical intolerance but the funny thing about a bar is I'm not as bothered by music I don't like. Perhaps it's the good cheer flowing. The atmosphere of the place. But I never really minded. I even had a non-Beatles 45 I would play sometimes by CCR about tamborines and elephants but we all know who my ears were devoted to. Here's that kid who plays that crap Beatle song every Saturday... "You say you want a revolution..." I certainly wanted a revolution at the barber shop. I just wanted not to go! Dad had other plans however.
WHERE & WHEN; So I added a cool new Beatles album to the collection. It was an odd mix of songs but I didn't think anything of it. The tracks from 1964 seemed a bit out of place but I played the album to death. Favourite song ended up being Harrison's Old Brown Shoe. Least favourite was Don't Let Me Down. Never did like the way it sounded. Played them on the piano, learned all the words, completely obnoxious I was.
STATUS; Included in the US Albums box set.
